Adopted the beautiful one year old Roxy three weeks ago from this shelter. The adoption process was simple and well handled by the staff. Roxy has settled in well on our one acre block and is an active and smart dog that loves her new home and always love lots of pats. The best decision I’ve ever made and Princess Roxy, a beautiful German Shepherd, loves her new home. For $99.00 she was a bargain.
Visited this shelter to potentially adopt a dog. Left so heartbroken with the state of this shelter compared to others we have visited and the living conditions of the dogs, walking around on wet concrete and through their own waste. Dogs seemed so distressed and starved for human attention, which involved many having injuries on their paws from jumping up on the cage. Reminds me more of a concrete prison for dogs. This shelter definitely needs a revamp for the sake of the animals.
I wasn't sure what to expect, after reading several negative reviews of this place. This pound is easy to get to, has lots of parking, and many pets waiting to be reunited with their owners, along with cats and dogs available for adoption.
The animals are well looked after, the dogs looked happy, waiting patiently in large adjacent enclosures, with plenty of sun and shade.
The cats were all in a large roofed area together, doing their own thing as they do, and also seemed quite relaxed. The ones that we saw were keen for love and attention as we approached. The hardest part was choosing just one pet to adopt.
The website has pictures of available cats and dogs including lost ones, if you want to know what is available before going.
The staff were very friendly, and felt sad to see the animals leaving their care.
There are special interaction areas where you can play with the cats or let the the dogs run around, (separately), to help find the perfect match, both for the animal and the buyer.
The open hours are very limited and different on different days of the week.
Went there today and I think this shelter needs a good revamp not only for the dogs and cats but for the staff too. I hope the council can do something it really needs to have a more warm inviting atmosphere and more homely feel for the animals. But in saying that I know the staff are doing a great job and it was a joy to see the dogs and cats.
They are by far the best shelters Ive been to. They take care of their animals and make sure that they go to good homes.
Audrey has been a cherished member of my family for 18 months now. She's the most beautiful girl in every way. I am so lucky to have her. Thanks to all those wonderful volunteers at Hawkesbury who give their time ,to care for and find homes for, the 4 leggeds.
I’m giving three stars
Because one time I was there and nice lady helped me but other times they are extremely rude. How the dogs and cats are kept are not very clean , they don’t seem to really care as much about the animals just more about a sale .
They don’t tell you much about the animals either regarding health issues and other problems . But other than that I wouldn’t really recommend. Unless by luck you get a good worker. But other than that it seems like the dogs and cats are not socialised and cared for
The staff at this shelter are extremely rude, disrespectful, dishonest and unprofessional in their dealings with visitors. It is clear that they have absolutely no concern for the welfare of the animals in their care. I have now had more than one negative experience at this shelter and I would be extremely hesitant to deal with them again. It is unfortunate that the lives of helpless animals are in the hands of these horrible people.
